
The Government has set a target of doubling of farmers’ income by the year 2022 : An IGSSS Discussion
IGSSS (Indo Global Social Service Society) a non
government organization working towards development, capacity building and
enlighten of vulnerable communities recently organized one of its kind CSR roundtable where leading experts from the CSR
community discussed on issues concerning the changes in climate and
environmental degradation. Experts also lay focus on discussing effective
strategies on “How to double a farmers income”.
IGSS since its inception in 1960 has been very active in

The idea behind the
roundtable discussion was to bring together thought leaders across the CSR
fraternity to device policies to help craft a sustainable India. As per the
experts “The Government has set a target of doubling of farmers’ income
by the year 2022 and constituted the DFI." The Committee has identified
seven sources of income growth namely, improvement in crop productivity;
improvement in livestock productivity; resource use efficiency or savings in
the cost of production; increase in the cropping intensity; diversification
towards high value crops; improvement in real prices received by farmers; and
shift from farm to non-farm occupations"
As the economy opened up post liberalisation (1991), globalisation promoted other sectors into generating more employment and economic growth. But, despite the reduction to 18 per cent in agriculture’s contribution to the GDP, agriculture and allied activities still employ the vast majority of the population.
The participants also discussed their company’s intervention areas for CSR and what their contribution towards a stronger, healthier, happier India.
