
At 6.64% Covid Positivity Rate Delhi might be heading for Rising cases and Weekend Curfews
As per the Union Health Ministry, Covid-19 cases may rise upto 20-25000 per day by mid-January in the National Capital. At the current rate of infection, Delhi may report 8-9,000 daily cases by January 8, top sources in the Union Health Ministry said in a statement to the media.
The Union Health Ministry is concerned about the rising of both Omicron and Delta variants across the country.
Yesterday, Delhi reported 4,099 infections in a day. At least 10,000 new cases have been recorded in three days.
Reports suggest that a weekend curfew may be enforced in Delhi as cases soar, sources said today after a government meeting on new restrictions.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority met to decide on new curbs in Delhi with the positivity rate staying above five percent for two straight days - the level that triggers a red alert under the color-coded Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The positivity rate in Delhi is at 6.46 percent, the highest since May. Delhi CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has also tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-isolation.
