At 6.64% Covid Positivity Rate Delhi might be heading for Rising cases and Weekend Curfews

As per the Union Health Ministry, Covid-19 cases may rise upto 20-25000 per day by mid-January in the National Capital. At the current rate of infection, Delhi may report 8-9,000 daily cases by January 8, top sources in the Union Health Ministry said in a statement to the media.

The Union Health Ministry is concerned about the rising of both Omicron and  Delta variants across the country.

Yesterday, Delhi reported 4,099 infections in a day. At least 10,000 new cases have been recorded in three days.

Reports suggest that a weekend curfew may be enforced in Delhi as cases soar, sources said today after a government meeting on new restrictions.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority met to decide on new curbs in Delhi with the positivity rate staying above five percent for two straight days - the level that triggers a red alert under the color-coded Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

A Red alert has been issued in the city that includes the shutdown of all nonessential shops, malls, weddings, and funerals. Public Transport has also been curbed.

The positivity rate in Delhi is at 6.46 percent, the highest since May. Delhi CM Mr. Arvind Kejriwal has also tested positive for Covid-19 and is in self-isolation.
